My life journey living with allergies..

Living with allergies, can be depressing and tiring! The most important aspect of managing allergies is to avoid the substance that you’re allergic to you’ll not experience an allergic reaction if you avoid the (allergens) preparing your own food is a safer option. Not everyone is understanding or willing to educate their self about how allergies affect people’s lives, that has no choice living with these allergens. working’ in a food industry it’s their responsibility to educate the staff how dangerous it can be for allergy suffers.

FOODS..

When a food allergy has been identified it’s essential that you avoid eating even a tiny quantity of the food that you’re allergic to unless advised differently by the ( allergy clinic) An allergic reaction can also happen after contact with that particular food, and can take up to seventy hours or more to recover. A small amount amount of dairy inhaled can cause swelling to the face, short of breath, vomiting and dizziness. A major problem with foods is the accidental exposure to a particular food allergens (especially peanuts) is possible when it’s a concealed or undisclosed ingredients. it’s important to: Read all the labels carefully, even if the product has been eaten before, as recipes changes.

Be more careful when eating out, on holidays, on outings and at parties or functions. These are the times when accidental ingestion can occur more easily. Be alert! Last week I went to my sister’s anniversary party and there was a few vegan dishes, one of them was curry instead of asking what was in the curry I chose not to have any, I had a bowl of plain rice. Some plum tomatoes, lettuce and some grapes, later on my daughter said, the vegan curry was delicious! “but” you couldn’t have it mom’ because it was made with coconut which I’m allergic.

Always ask about the ingredients in the food when eating out, or take your own food, not everyone is honest.. visiting a ice cream parlous, in store bakeries and delicatessen counters ( foods are generally unlabelled in these places). always stress the seriousness of your allergens condition to the staff. Preferably talk direly to the chef if necessary-ask about the ingredients and stress about the use of clean utensils, if they can’t guarantee that a specific dish is safe, the best thing to do is leave and eat elsewhere.

Today there are so many retailers and manufacturers which are free-from certain ingredients such as peanuts, egg, and milk. Cross contamination is a risk for individuals with food allergens. This happen when a food unknowingly come intact with the allergenic food. Ideas to reduce the risk of cross contamination includes take extra care when preparing foods so that contaminated cutlery, crockery, or work surfaces do not come in contact with the ‘safe’ food. for example alway use clean utensils and always wipe down surfaces with hot soapy sponge.
