Corn Dogs

Ingredients

sunflower oil, for deep-frying

6 vegan sausages

225/ 8 oz/ 1 1/2 cups yellow cornmeal

100 g/3 1/2 oz/ 2/3 cup plain (all-purpose) flour

1 tbsp baking powder

1 tbsp castor (superfine) sugar

1 vegan egg, beaten

259 ml / 9 fl oz/ 1 cup vegan buttermilk

America mustard for dipping

Methods

1.Soak six wooden skewers in cold water for 20 minutes.

2.Preheat the oil in a deep fat fryer, according to the manufacturer’s instructions, to a temperature of 180° C (350°f).

3.Thread the frankfurters onto the skewers and dry then really well with kitchen paper.

4.Mix the cornmeal with the flour, baking powder, sugar and garlic powder in a bowl. Whisk in the egg and buttermilk to make a thick batter.

5.Dip the frankfurters in coat. Hold all of the skewers without then touching each other and immerse in the hot oil. Fry for 1 minutes, then let go let sink into the fryer. Continue to try for 2 minutes or until golden and crisp.

6.Drain on plenty of kitchen paper, then serve immediately with mustard for dipping.
